This Week in Music
Saturday August 16, 2008
Your weekly music news and music cool stuff round-up (no Olympics, guaranteed):
- First, a little site news. David Rose of KnowTheMusicBiz let me know that there was a link problem in my recent blog about using Twitter for music promotion - the link led to an article about MySpace. Sorry about that - the Twitter article can be found here. Thanks to David for the heads up.
- Yahoo reported this week about an 8 year old guitar player who has been banned from playing gigs because of child labor laws. Sounds to me like a few musicians in Wisconsin feel a bit threatened by this kid, because the campaign to keep him off the stage has been, well, ridiculously OTT. I'm talking about people making false police reports of drugs and weapons in a club the boy usually plays in and DEATH THREATS against his agent. Wow.
- Flying with a music instrument can be a real nightmare (I'm having flashbacks of a particularly ugly incident in Cologne, Germany, regarding a cello). Here is a great guide to flying with all kinds of different instruments. If you're flying with anything other than a guitar, you HAVE to read this.
- The the first round of bands and panels for CMJ was announced this week - you can see them here. I'm excited because none other than Mr. Lee "Scratch" Perry is on the list....awwww yeah!! Can't wait.
- Virgin Records is suing 30 Second from Mars for $30 million for not fulfilling their contract. $30 mill in damages for undelivered 30 Seconds from Mars albums?!?!? Hilarious, Virgin. Hilarious.

How can you have the blues if you are 8 years old and already have an agent?
Hahaha! Good point, Dave. Well, he did say he’s “just feelin’ it”!
