UK Musicians: Great Masterclass Opportunity

Thursday August 21, 2008
UK musicians, here is one opportunity to put in big, bold letters on your calendar. On August 30, the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) will be hosting a series of FREE masterclasses, taught by some of the top session musicians in Britain. You'll get the chance to pick up playing skills plus industry insights from the likes of:
  • Paul Moran - Keyboard player who has worked with everyone from Van Morrison to the Scissor Sisters
  • Dane Chalfin - Vocalist who has coached people such as the aforementioned Scissor Sisters, casts of major theater productions like Cats and Night Fever - and most excitingly for me, Peter Kay and the cast of Corrie (!! wow, I miss Coronation Street and a nice cup of tea. Send Digestives. Or Jaffa Cakes.)
  • Jim Davies - Former live guitarist for The Prodigy
  • Nic France - Session drummer who has worked with Annie Lennox, Pete Townsend, Thomas Dolby and many more.
  • Stevie Williams - Bass player who has worked on projects with Nic France as well as Hothouse Flowers
While soaking up the expertise of these musicians, you'll get the chance to learn more about the brand new Foundation Degree, which is designed to train up and coming session musicians who are 18+ and launches in September. If you haven't made it to that magic age yet, you can also check out the pre-Foundation program, run by Access to Music to prep students 16+ who have their eyes on the Foundation Degree in the future.

This whole shebang is brought to you by RNCM and Access to Music, and anyone 16+ with an interest in a career as a session musician is invited to attend (parents of budding musicians also welcome). Here are the important details:
  • Location - RNCM, 124 Oxford Road, Manchester
  • Date - August 30
  • Time - 10:30am - 3:15pm
  • More Info - Call 0800 28 18 42
