Weekly Blog Round Up

Sunday September 28, 2008

We've been spending a lot of time lately talking about the internet and the music business, and more specifically about how blogs can help you in your music career, from offering a new avenue to promote your own music to helping you build up your chops as a music journalist. As such, I'm starting a weekly blog roll of sorts to let you know about cool things I've been reading throughout the week. Of course, I'm going to need your help here, so let me know what you're reading/writing about - it may end up here!

So, we're off on our inaugural blog roll. First, though, you know I have to say it - off site links may include images and language that are offensive to some users. You've been warned:

  1. Carla Lynne Hall, author of The DIY Guide to the Music Biz and the most cheerful tweeter around, is a bona fide music marketing pro, not to mention a dedicated indie musician. Luckily, she's happy to share her knowledge, and you can bask in it at her Rock Star Life Lessons blog.

  2. Calling all 60s psych pop fans! Brother Lou's Love Colony has an interview with David Marks, ex of The Beach Boys and The Moon. It's a nice little slice of music history.

  3. Amir Said (you might recall him from his article on representation for beatmakers and hip hop producers) has info about the upcoming Producers Conference on his great Beat Tips site. There's also a good interview with Buckwild. No, not the girl from Flavor of Love, but rather Buckwild the producer.

  4. I love the blog Wayne and Wax. This week, I found myself yet again digging up his post tracing the history of Yellowman's Zunguzung meme.

  5. The Sound of Young Scotland blog. Nuff said.

  6. Last weekend, Perez Hilton gave us a taste of the A&R skills he brings to the table of the record label Warners is bestowing upon him when he described Swagger Like Puff as "both musically and lyrically exciting." Thankfully, Ron Mexico set the record straight about this song.

That's what I've been reading this week - how about you? Drop me a line and let me know.
