Weekly Blog Roll
Your weekly blog roll is officially in session:
First, I want to start by pointing out two sites created by readers of this site. The first is Gig in the UK: Tips for International Songwriters Wanting to Tour. Written by musicians/songwriter/record label boss Lorelei Loveridge, this blog gives info geared at non UK musicians who want to break into touring that country. It's just getting started, but it's highly recommended (as is touring in the UK - let me tell you, you'll have a great time).
The other isn't technically a blog, but I think it could be a great resource - The Female Producer Network. This site was started by Tasmeen Ballin in the hopes of making opportunities a little easier to find for the ladies behind the desk. Check it out, join, share your advice and experiences on the message board - I think there's tons of potential here.
Nice post on hypebot about getting your fav music bloggers to write about your songs - check it out.
A lot of the new stuff on the site this week has been about releasing your own music and how there's no simple formula to follow that works for everyone. In this video discussion, Ariel Hyatt of Ariel Publicity/cyber PR and Derek Sivers, founder of Cd Baby talk in greater depth about how the only one who really knows how you're going to ultimately make it in music is you. Good stuff.
Cameron Mizell of wrote this great article sharing what he learned from working at a venue. This info will help you if you play shows, book shows, or both - check it out.
It's awards time over on Ron Mexico City, which led to an unfortunate incident this week with me, laughing, a mouth full of coffee and my computer keyboard.
Want to know what's happening behind the scenes in the case of the RIAA versus Joel Tenembaum? Follow @joelfightsback on Twitter! I am.
That's all for this week! As always, let me know about your own blogs and what you're reading.
