How to Hire an Entertainment Lawyer

Like it or not, if you plan to make a living in the music industry, there is probably going to be a time when you need the advice of an entertainment lawyer. Maybe you need someone to look over a contract, maybe you need help with a copyright dispute, or maybe the legal minefields are popping up left and right and you need someone to call on for help in lots of different areas. Whatever your reason, there are two main concerns when you look for an entertainment lawyer: finding someone with the skills to handle your legal needs and someone who can handle your budget. A booking agent friend referred me to Jerry Hand, who is an entertainment lawyer out of Philadelphia. Our band had dealt with several lawyers in the industry, but he was the best by far. He explained our recording contract to us in words we could understand and negotiated a great deal for us with the label.
