First Tour Survival Guide

By November 16, 2012

Follow me on:

My least favorite things about teaching music biz students are when they don't come to class or do their homework (grrr), but my favorite part is seeing some of my students graduate and start working hard at their music goals. I've been fortunate enough to have past and current students like Estee Gabay, parts of Long Miles and Brave Baby, DenzTyler Boone, parts of South Street,  and many others filling up my classroom seats. In fact, another of my former students, the one and only Will Hastings, is knee deep in his first tour right now.

First tours are lots of fun, and lots of hard work. I'm not sure anyone has ever gone out on their first tour and not been absolutely amazed at how much work really goes into it - and if you don't have that experience, you're probably not doing it right. Of course, a little planning goes a long way towards avoiding those testy touring moments, so you can focus more on having fun and making lots of new fans. If you're getting ready to hit the road for the first time, this First Tour Survival Guide will help you make it through.

Also, a special thanks to David Rose from KnowTheMusicBiz for inviting me to guest write for his very helpful site. Check out my 10 Tips for Finding Your Music Biz Happy Place over there.
