The relationship between the band and the manager is a pretty major one. Whether bands and managers decide to be BFFs and barely take a breath without alerting each other or the relationship is more of a professional camaraderie, one thing has to exist for said relationship to be fruitful: complete and utter trust and a shared vision (OK, two things).
As a manager, it helps to have a healthy list of contacts and existing music biz relationships, but if you're just starting out, that's not a deal breaker. Those contacts will come in time, provided you do your job well. Instead, ask yourself if you have these band manager skills.
