How do I become a (insert music industry career)?
I'm more than happy to discuss various music careers with you and give you some ideas about getting started. In fact, I love to do it. But please do be aware that I get a lot of these questions by email and it might take a bit of time for me to get back to you. For a quick answer, check the industry careers section of the site.
- Can you review my album?
Unfortunately, I can't do album reviews on the site, but About.com has music sites dedicated to just about every genres of music who might be able to help you out with that. Visit the About.com home page, where you'll find a list of all of the sites on the network. Find the site you want and pay it a visit - you'll find contact details for the guides on their individual sites.
- Can you review my book/blog/site/event?
If you have a project that is directly related to the music industry - such as a book about starting a record label or if you're hosting an event for musicians and industry, then I could likely review it. Please understand I can't specifically review music.
In terms of blogs, I look for ones that are about the music industry or that have some kind of unique angle, like a great use of promotion. Either way, I love to see readers' blogs and sites, so feel free to let me know what you're doing!
- Can you check out my contract?
I'm not a lawyer and can't give you legal advice. I can give you general information and point out any red flags that you might want to look out for, but again, the information I give you is in no way a substitute for legal advice.
- Will you manage my band/book my tour/release my record?
Thank you for thinking of me, but alas, probably not. I love to hear about what you're working on, so please feel free to keep me posted - I've discovered a lot of things I love when readers have emailed me about their music. But there aren't enough hours in the day, so you'd be better off finding someone who can give your music the attention it deserves to take on these roles.
- Will you reply to my email?
Yes, I will! Well, if you've asked for a reply, I will get back to you. I want to stress how much I value your questions and your comments, and while I can't promise I can get back to you overnight, I CAN promise that I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can. If you think there is a chance that I didn't receive your first email or that I might have skipped over it somehow, feel free to resend it.
