Gather The Basics

Before you can make a single phone call about the shows you want to play, you'll need all the right materials in place:

  • A demo or a finished CD, or a website on which people can listen to your music
  • A press pack, including information about your band and clippings of any press coverage you may have had.
Another basic you should take care of up front is choosing a rough timeline for your tour. Calling up a promoter and saying you want to play "whenever" is too vague - it doesn't force them to act on your request then and there. Pick a window of preferred dates, and of course, make sure everyone in the band has them marked on their calendars.
