Blazetrak Profile

By , About.com Guide

What is Blazetrak:

Blazetrak is a service that lets aspiring entertainers seek advice and/or pitch themselves to industry professionals. For our purposes, we'll talk about the service from the perspective of aspiring musicians, but there are avenues for people in other creative fields to use the service as well.

How Does Blazetrak Work?:

There are two parts to any Blazetrak equation – the aspiring musician and the industry pro. Each has a profile within the Blazetrak system. The aspiring musician searches the site either by the name of the professional they’d like to work with or by opportunity. From those search results, the aspiring musician sees what their options are – for instance, producer X is looking for a female vocalist. If the find something that interests them, they can pay the fee, submit their application and receive a video response within 30 days from that pro.

What’s That about Fees?:

Each industry pro on Blazetrak sets a price that aspiring musicians have to pay to submit material to them. So, songwriter A might charge $75 to listen to your demo and offer advice, while label exec B might charge you $120 listen to you sing to consider you for a new group they are putting together. The pros have autonomy when it comes to setting their prices. If you don’t receive a video response from that pro in 30 days, Blazetrak will give you a full refund. However, as you can track where your submission is in the queue, you can opt for forgo the refund and wait it out.

Public versus Private:

Everything you upload to Blazetrak is between you and the people to whom you submit it, unless you decide otherwise. You can make your profile public so other Blazetrak users can check out your work and leave you feedback. You can also choose to make your interactions with the pros public (i.e, their video response to you), provided you both agree.

What Results Should I Expect?:

All you should expect from Blazetrak is some honest feedback. The service offers you the inside track on opportunities you may not otherwise know about it, and it gives you the chance to get some tips and critiques from people who have already become successful in the industry. Although there is certainly the potential that you will develop a relationship with someone in the industry that ends up launching your career, keep in mind that your fee doesn’t buy you guaranteed success.
