Manhattan School of Music: The Basics:

Undegraduate Degree Programs:

Undergraduate study at Manhattan School of Music has two tracks: performance and composition. Within those two tracks, students complete four focus areas: their major field, related music courses, ensemble performances and humanities based coursework. Music history and theory are studied by all students.

Graduate Degree Programs:

Manhattan School of Music offers a number of two year Master degree programs focusing on classical and jazz instrument and vocal work as well as orchestral program. Aspiring music teachers can complete a two year M.A. program offered jointly between Manhattan School of Music and Columbia Teacher's College that earns them both an M.A. in Music and Music Education.

Admission:

Manhattan School of Music admissions are highly competitive. High school transcripts and SAT scores are required from all applicants, but the most important factor in admissions is the audition. Applicants first must submit a pre-recorded audition tape for pre-screening purposes. Applicants who make it through the first round will then receive a date for their live audition.
