Music Industry Degree Track:
USC Thornton School of Music offers a variety of music performance related degrees, but there is a program for those who wish to focus on the industry itself. Students can choose between a B.M. that combines both performance study and industry topics or a B.S. that focuses on general business theory, writing and music business topics. Students who choose the B.S. can further choose to specialize in either music industry or music technology. Students in each degree program are required to complete an internship. B.M. students must perform in a recital their junior years.
Admission Requirements for USC Thornton School of Music Industry Degree:
Applicants to the Thornton School of Music must meet the general USC admission requirements in addition to requirements specific to Thornton. In 2009, the average GPA of the freshmen class at USC was 3.7 and the middle 50% of accepted students has SAT scores ranging from 1930 - 2150. If you want to pursue the B.M. degree, an audition is required. If you want to pursue the B.S., the audition is waived since there is no performing component to that degree.
