Why Start a Music Convention?

UnConvention Panel

For a start it can be a good way to promote the music scene in your area, your venue, your website etc. One of the reasons for going to conference is to network, and what better way of networking than organizing the conference yourself? You'll be sure to meet most, if not all, of the speakers and delegates, who can turn into future contacts for your business.

Like most things in the industry, a big reason to start a music convention is because it can be a great deal of fun. On the flipside, like most things in the industry, if you're looking at it as a way of making your fortune you should probably think again. While some music conference are big money spinners most, and often the best, aren't. Especially for your first few events, you're probably going to be doing this for love, not money.
