Update Your Music Promo Package

Your music promo pack is your calling card. It introduces you to labels, press, managers, distributors - really, anyone who can help your in your music career. Obviously, then, it's extremely important to keep your press kit up to date. Here are just a few things that might cause you to need to update your promo pack:

• You get a new review/interview
• You play a show with a well known act
• You record a new demo
• You shoot a music video
• You get some radio play
• You win some kind of award/recognition (you're voted best new local band, for instance)

As you're building your music career, it's important to use every small success as a stepping stone a larger one, and so it makes sense to constantly refresh your music promo kit with news as it happens. After all, you never know what's going to be that one thing that makes someone decide to take a closer look at your music. The update doesn't have to be extensive. Make a copy of a review, add a quote to your bio, add a sentence to your press release - that's all it really takes. Review your promo pack regularly to make sure it's doing you justice.
