Won't I Need Expensive Software?

The easiest, and recommended way, of building a website is using a simple text editing programme like Notepad. Using this you can edit the code that makes up the website (for an example of the web's code click on view/page source in your browser). You'll also need a program to edit pictures for the website. Most computer systems come with a basic graphic editing package. The most commonly used 'professional' graphics package is Adobe's Photoshop, but the cheapest version comes in at $140. An alternative is GIMP, a free Photoshop like package that I use for all my image editing.
