Bobby Hanson of Citation Records - 2008 Music Wrap Up

By Heather McDonald, About.com

Citation Records

Five Favorite Things:

  1. All the Roadrunning by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris. Not new, but new to me, this record is a near-perfect example of musicianship and the art of songwriting. Maybe the idea of making an entire album is not completely lost after all?

  2. The iPod. I know, I know…what took me so long!

  3. In the book category, All You Need to Know About the Music Business by Donald S. Passman. Referred to by many as the music industry's bible, this is a must read for anyone interested in a career in the music business.

  4. Tom Petty's Buried Treasure on XM Radio.

  5. The Killers. Seriously, how cool is that band!

The Past/The Future:

Without a doubt, the biggest success of 2008 was the launch of Citation Records.

Citation Records was founded with the mission to be the most artist-friendly independent record label, built on fairness, simplicity, and good music. We truly believe that we can bring much-needed change to an industry that, for the most part, has earned its bad reputation.

With multiple artists in development and releases scheduled for January 2009, we look forward to continued growth and success in the new year.

About You:

My official title is "A&R / Artist Development" for Citation Records, but I wear many hats. I live and work just outside of Los Angels and I'm always scouting new music for the label. In my spare time (yeah, right) I am also a musician and a songwriter. If you want to drop me a line, stop by our MySpace page.
