Three Favorite Things in 2009:
1. New Clients – In addition to my music clients, I have started working with other businesses including Vintage Visuals, Gloria’s Coffee, and Fit To Be Tied Shoes. I am loving the challenge of applying experience in Artist Dev to Small Biz strategies.
2. New Bands – Bands that may not be new to everyone, but should be! Stereo Sinai and Scotland Yard Gospel Choir.
3. New Adventures – I have spent the year learning how to incorporate a baby into the business. She has been to recording sessions, business meetings, and has been a constant source of inspiration.
What I Learned About The Music Industry in 2009:
I learned that no matter what changes, certain things stay the same. There are so many talented musicians out there that refuse to acknowledge that this is business. I can only offer the opportunity, I can't make someone take it. I have also learned that there are some incredible workers out there who will soak it all up, and make it happen. If you want it, you have to take responsibility for the outcome.
2010 Primer
I think that musicians need to focus on writing and playing good music, touring, and treating this as a business. The “greater” industry will continue to change, but those fundamentals will always provide a living.
