How Did You Get Started as a Producer?
I started out recording on a cassette 4 track in the late 80's and took a 1 year recording engineering course in the early 90's . I moved to NYC in '97 and pretty soon people started asking me to make tracks for them. I combined my engineering chops and my keyboard chops and was able to get really good results. been doing it full time since 2001
How Can Musicians Help You Do Your Job Better?
Come to the studio prepared. The studio is not the place for learning a song or working out parts. Make sure your guitar is in working order. Also it's sometimes helpful to give the engineer and producer a copy of the lyrics to the song your working on. It wiil make communicationj much easier so everyone will know what part of the song they are working on
Advice
- If you want to work as a producer you should have bath an engineering and a musical background cause you are the middleman between the artist and the engineer. You should know some music theory and be able to hear the diff between a IV chord and a V chord and on the flip side you should know how a compressor works
