How Did You Get Started as a Producer?
Began my career as a classical and jazz saxophonist, then discovered a love of recording after trying my hand at guitar. I turned to music theory, production, acoustics and electronics, then founded Oakline Recording in 2004 as a place to experiment with music production. I held apprenticeship with Mixer/Producer/Record Exec Brian Malouf and frequently work out of major studios in the Philadelphia area. I have worked on projects for numerous major and indie labels.
How Can Musicians Help You Do Your Job Better?
Practice practice practice.. Know your songs backwards and forwards, work out your solos, demo your songs, learn your harmonies so that any changes you make in the studio don't add to the stress of writing or take away from your confidence and the vibe of your playing. This may or may not (but usually will) include practicing with a click. The tighter and more prepared you are going into the production process the more productive, creative and fun the production and recording process will be.
Advice
- Find a good mentor. Be persistent. Learn music theory. Practice your art.
