From the article: Self Releasing an Album - Pros and Cons
CD sales are falling but vinyl sales are increasing. Do you press vinyl for your releases or is vinyl too expensive for small budgets? If you do press it, even if you think it is too expensive, why do you make the sacrifice? Share your stories.

My take on vinyl
- I don't have any service to sell you in the comment, so it might end being more useful than the others... It all falls in a couple of questions: 1) do you intend to do a release on vinyl *instead* of in CD, or do you plan to do the investment for vinyl *besides* the one you do for the CD edition? The second question, and more important perhaps, how many records would you press? It is true that you can get 500 12'' for under $4 per piece, but that means that you can get 500 12'' for 1000€ (actually it's more, but you can get it for only a little more than 1000€ in some plants). Well, the investment might be acceptable, specially if you have the hopes of selling the 500 copies. But you can't compare prices there: you can get 500 CDs for less than half the price... And if you start thinking in less quantities, the scale is completely different: you can get 500 12'' for 1000€ but you can't get 50 for 500€ (it will be slightly more expensive than that). Does that matter? Depends :-)

Phoenix Of Vinyl Ltd
- Vinyl is making an amazing comeback and I was amazed when a friend said that I could still press up some vinyl records with my own tracks on it for an affordable price. Phoenix Of Vinyl Ltd based in London were great and explaining everything and made it very easy to get my records pressed.

Not expensive
- Vinyl pressing is coming down in price as the demand for vinyl records go up. With popular bands like Oasis and Coldplay releasing their back catalogue on vinyl it looks like the vinyl record is the way to go - http://www.hdc.uk.com/vinyl_pressing.shtml

Vinyl is NOT Expensive
- At http://www.pressthisrecord.com we run specials for indie bands. You can get a full package of 500 12" with full color jackets and digital download cards, completely assembled for under $4 per piece. Pretty affordable if you ask me, and in the opinion of most, more sellable than CDs.
